Tar Pits and Camouflage

It’s unfortunate to say, but the world is nothing but tar pits. However, the funny thing about tar pits is that they don’t reveal themselves right away. They have various forms of camouflage and you won’t realize that your stuck until it’s too late. Unless of course you are already keen to the trap and jump in head first anyways. There’s always a few of those people out there somewhere.

Black pits of death come in all shapes and sizes, but logically, the end result is the same. They all have only one goal; CONSUME. Most of the time we have no idea we are being consumed until we are so far stuck in the pit that we are choking on the foul substance. Who in their right mind would ever allow themselves to die such a horrible death? Why haven’t more people caught on?

Camouflage has two primary uses in the world; avoiding death and causing death. Tar pits use their camo for both of these purposes. Their primary purpose is to kill and consume, but they also must keep up the charade to prevent their own demise. Their cover is most devious and brings in a ceaseless flow of ignorant and naive victims. The pits camo is not necessarily a visual cover but more so a cover story, a lie. The lie is grand and most believable, allowing the gluttonous trap to keep feeding. The lies come in many chameleon like forms. They have something for everyone.

What are these lies? Why are they so powerful? Well, there is no simple answer. The pit spins a devious tale. It lures in it’s prey with promises of happiness and fulfillment. The poor fools dive into the pits head first, happy to be there. For the first stretch of time they continue to believe the lies. If they should begin to catch on, the pit just ups the story, calming it’s victim once more into submission. This process repeats itself until it is too late. By the time the helpless wretch truly understands his folly, he chokes to death on a mouthful of vile poison. With his dying thought, he wishes he could warn the others. Alas, he is now a part of the tar pit and will remain there forever. Never did he truly experience freedom in his life. It was all a lie.

I almost forget! There have been a few stories of pit survivors! I know it’s hard to imagine, but occasionally it happens. However, the sad thing about pit survivors is that they can usually never recover. They live out the rest of their days in limbo, or even so thoroughly crazed that they think they would have been better off if they just stayed put in the tar. Never give up hope though! Some of the survivors escape the pits and live out fantastic lives! These survivors grow and have children and try to warn them of the dangers in the world. As usual, the children don’t always listen, and the pits occasionally get a special treat.
